Copenhagen World Pride 2021 has officially commenced!
While this is a time of celebration, from a security risk and corporate social responsibility perspective, world pride also warrants a serious reflection on the safety of LGBTQAI+ employees.
In collaboration with our data provider Riskline, we released a list of countries where LGBTQAI+ habitants, workers, or travellers are at extreme risk. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. Riskline furthermore reports that from the 225+ countries and territories tracked:
in 70 homosexuality is illegal
in 14 there are no regulations at all
in 110 there are no protection laws
same-sex marriage is only legal in 47 of them
in 104 countries LGBTQAI+ is not socially accepted
there are 12 countries that punish homosexuality by death
Due to GDPR regulations, companies cannot force enquiries on sexual orientation. However, if the company is operating in a country that might put an LGBTQAI+ employee at risk, it is crucial to recognize this risk and apply adequate security risk mitigation.
