Recently, our office got a bit crowded! Samuel Baran has temporarily joined our Human Risks team for his internship, as a part of his degree at the University College of Northern Denmark. It was a real joy to have him in our office.
Now, that the internship is about to come to an end, we took the time to chat with him about his experience.

Can you tell us a bit about your academic background? What sparked your interest in UX/UI design and front-end development?
I started my studies as a multimedia design student at UCN. The studies only propelled my interest in UX/UI design and front-end development. I like the idea of observing how people work and then creating a design to make that work more straightforward and easier. It feels fulfilling to create convenience for complex things.

What was the main point of focus of your internship at Human Risks?
The focus was to make the data that the platform provides easier to understand and to work with. The goal was to create a visual representation of the data. It was certainly a challenge, but overall very exciting and rewarding experience.

What are the 3 biggest takeaways from your internship experience? What did you learn while working at Human Risks?
Sometimes it’s hard for me to express myself well. I’ve learned how to communicate my ideas better and how to reason for their importance. My findings from the interviews with our platform users armed me with great arguments!
I’ve also learned how lovely it can be to be in an office environment with other like-minded individuals. I feel like I keep learning and re-learning this one over and over, but if you feel lost or in doubt about what to do, just ask people around you – they are most likely happy to help you and explain everything.
-
How would you describe what the Human Risks company does to someone who has never heard of it?
If I were to explain Human Risks to someone, I would tell them that it is a great company providing risk management and mitigation tools that help you stay on top of your game, provide safety and prepare for the unexpected.

How was working with the Human Risks team? How would you describe the atmosphere and work culture at the office?
Colleagues were awesome, very welcoming, and helpful. The atmosphere at the office was always bright. Every day we had lunch together where we sat down around the table and enjoyed each other’s stories and weird ideas, I enjoyed it very much.

Do you have any advice for students looking for an internship opportunity?
I would suggest looking at what companies are in their area, and meditating a little bit about what would they like to get from an internship. With a personal goal in mind, engagement and motivation are always higher.
We hope to give more hard-working and ambitious students the opportunity to grow and learn in the future.
